This paper presents investigations of flame using imaging techniques obtained for different states of combustion process. Laboratory tests were carried out with different settings of secondary air flow and thermal power for different fuel mixtures that contained 10%, and 30% of biomass. Flame shape parameters as centre of gravity and area was determined for grayscale regions that were determined for each frame with Otsu’s thresholding method. The mentioned parameters were accessed taking into account their potential use in combustion process diagnostics. Streszczenie. Artykuł przedstawia badania płomienia z wykorzystaniem technik wizyjnych dla różnych stanów procesu spalania. Testy laboratoryjne zostały przeprowadzone przy różnych ustawieniach przepływu powietrza drugiego i mocy dla mieszanin paliwa zawierającego 10% i 30% biomasy. Parametry obszaru płomienia jak środek ciężkości i pole powierzchni poddane ocenie pod względem ich potencjalnego wykorzystanie w diagnostyce procesu spalania. The paper considers access of combustion process of pulverized coal and biomass blend using analysis of flame images. Several flame image parameters were examined as pointers of one of the basic combustion process input parameters as air and fuel flow rate. Image parameters like greyscale area region, coordinates of centre of gravity and flame area contour length were averaged in a fixed time span. The aim of investigations was assessing ability to determine air and fuel flow rates on the basis of the mentioned image parameters. Streszczenie. Rozpatrywano kilka parametrów obrazu jako wskaźniki najważniejszych parametrów wejściowych procesu spalania jak wydatki paliwa i powietrza. Parametry obrazu, jak powierzchnia obszaru w skali szarości, współrzędne środka ciężkości i długość konturu były uśredniane w ustalonym oknie czasowym. W artykule przedstawiono jeden z instrumentów zarządzania strategicznego którym jest zrównoważona karta wyników w postaci adaptacyjnego systemu sterowania na przykładzie mapy strategii dla elektrociepłowni. The paper describes a balanced scorecard as an adaptive control system built on the basis of a strategic map of a heat-supply plant.
