Study of thermal decomposition of biomass, as an alternatives to coke in the iron ore agglomerate production process DOI:10.15199/24.2017.11.1

Introduction. A biomass ranks among inexhaustible sources of energy, available for regional use, thereby eliminating some economic and environmental impacts. The use of biomass in metallurgical processes is associated with the minimization of the negative properties and can be considered as a partial substitution of coke breeze in the iron ore agglomerate production process. Coke makes the fuel part of the charge and is the most expensive and most deficient raw material in the metallurgical process. Whereas biomass is characterized by diversity, it is necessary to select potentially suitable species and focus on the study of particular species and their effects on process and product quality. It is equally important to monitor their impacts on economic indicators and environmental impacts. Based on theoretical studies [1-12], the use of plant biomass, dendromas, and wood waste from the wood-processing industry in the form of sawdust seems to be the most appropriate for the agglomeration process. The choice regarding the suitability of the partial replacement of coke breeze in agglomeration process by biomass should be made on the basis of its physico-chemical properties. These properties need to be thoroughly analyzed and compared to the properties of the coke, which is used in the sintering process. With regard to the analyzed worldwide studies of the use of individual biomass types in the production of iron-ore agglomerate, selected biomass was from oak and pine wood, and nut shells. Due to the nature of the origin of each biomass and the theoretical knowledge of biomass cellular structure and coke, significant differences in the chemical composition of the comparison fuels, physical properties and their behavior during combustion can be assumed. It is clear that the process of partial coke substitution by chosen biomass is influenced by a number of factors that need to be addressed and analyzed. For this reason, the sub[...]

The process of simulating the iron ores agglomerate production under laboratory conditions

The present work contains an analysis of knowledge, which were obtained from analysis of the results, which were attained on the laboratory sintering pan. On this laboratory sintering pan there are sufficiently simulating conditions, which are present in the sinter strand. On the basis of the theoretical analyze, analysis measuring data, computing of the balance, production, qualitative and quantitative parameters of the sintering process we can conclude, that in the case of changing of the underpressure of the sucking air the main production parameters in the process of agglomerate production ore influensad. This laboratory sintering pan sufficiently simulates conditions present on the sinter belt in relation to the production of CO, CO2, NOx, SOx and solid polluting substances in the sintering process. We can express the opinion that when changing various parameters of the sintering process (for example, changing underpressure of the sucking air) these emissions can decrease. In connection with high basicity requirements for current agglomerates it is necessary to keep their iron content. For this purpose in view laboratory sintering tests were performed to investigate the effect of sintering ores and concentrates on the agglomeration process and its products. The experiment results were analyzed and summarized in the present paper. 2010 r.

Influence of properties of low grade Mn ore on the sintering process and quality of produced Mn sinters DOI:10.15199/24.2017.11.2

Introduction. With continually increasing mining of Mn ores, their further processing and during handling in ferroalloy plants the production of Mn ore fines rises [1]. These materials are inappropriate for direct use in the manufacture of Mn ferroalloys because they reduce the permeability of the batch, resulting in increased electricity consumption, increased dust and reduced productivity, and are often without further processing despite their quality (chemical composition - negligible Mn content) stored out [2]. Many manufacturers of ferroalloys are therefore trying to find the most efficient way for their maximum utilization. For this purpose, there are various experiments in the world that deal with the use of these fines [3]. Appropriate processing technology could reduce the costs associated with the import of Mn ores and their processing and thus reduce operating costs of production of manganese ferroalloys. Processing of manganese ores by sintering is one of the most commonly used methods [4]. Experimental methods. A sample of low grade manganese ore was analysed, which was subsequently subjected to the sintering process to determine the possibility of its processing to Mn sinter. The physicochemical properties of Mn ore were analysed: humidity, granulometric composition, thermal analysis, chemical and mineralogical composition. For the determination of moisture was the sample of Mn ore (1000 g) dried in a resistive furnace at a temperature of 110°C, a pressure of 101 325 Pa, to a constant weight change. The analysis of chemical composition was realized by combining analytical methods AAS elemental analysis of the prepared solutions and optical quantification method. Phase composition was determined by X ray diffraction X-ray analysis on the diffraction spectrometer SEIFERT XRD 3003/PTS. Thermal analysis of the samples of Mn ores was carried out on Derivatograph C-fy MOM Budapest. Granulometric composition of Mn o[...]
